BASICOPERATIONANDFEATURES
ThesinglestagepowerconverterswitchesatafixedfrequencyforpredictableEMIperformance.Rectificationof thetransformer'soutputisaccomplishedwithsynchronous rectifiers.Thesedevices,whichareMOSFETswithaverylow on-stateresistance,dissipatefarlessenergythanSchottky diodes.ThisistheprimaryreasonthatthePowerQorconverterhassuchhighefficiency,evenatverylowoutputvoltagesandveryhighoutputcurrents. Dissipationthroughouttheconverterissolowthatitdoes notrequireaheatsinkforoperation.Sinceaheatsinkisnot required,thePowerQorconverterdoesnotneedametal baseplateorpottingmaterialtohelpconductthedissipated energytotheheatsink.ThePowerQorconvertercanthusbe builtmoresimplyandreliablyusinghighyieldsurfacemount techniquesonaPCBsubstrate. ThePowerQorseriesofeighth-brick,quarter-brickandhalfbrickconvertersusestheindustrystandardfootprintand pin-outconfiguration.

In the positive logic version, the ON/OFF input is active high (meaning that a high turns the converter on). In the negative logicversion,theON/OFFsignalisactivelow(meaningthata lowturnstheconverteron).FigureAdetailsfivepossiblecircuits for driving the ON/OFF pin. Figure B is a detailed look of the internalON/OFFcircuitry. REMOTE SENSE(+) (Pins 7 and 5):TheSENSE(+)inputs correctforvoltagedropsalongtheconductorsthatconnect theconverter'soutputpinstotheload. Pin7shouldbeconnectedtoVout(+)andPin5shouldbe connectedtoVout(-)atthepointontheboardwhereregulationisdesired.Aremoteconnectionattheloadcanadjust foravoltagedroponlyaslargeasthatspecifiedinthis datasheet,thatis
